Do you know about electronic waste?

All electronic and electrical equipment and accessories that are disposed of after use belong to the category of electronic waste.

Computers / TVs / Washing machines / Refrigerators / Cell phones / CFL bulbs / tube light / All battery types CDs & DVDs, including electronics and accessories

Electronic waste generates between 20-50 million tons worldwide annually

 About 65 metric tons of electronic waste is collected in Sri Lanka annually

 

Are you aware of the harm caused by the illegal dumping of electronic waste into the environment?

• It releases a number of toxic chemicals into the soil, water and atmosphere, including heavy metals such as cadmium, mercury, lead, arsenic, nickel and chromium, which are harmful to the body.
• These heavy metals and toxins enter the human body through air and food.
•  Therefore, kidney or lung disorders, lung cancer, skin cancer, neurological disorders, brain damage, diarrhea, genetic mutations and many other diseases

1. Do not dispose of any electronic deeds that are disposed of after use at your home office institution
2. Do not stack CFL bulbs, tube light, TV and computer tubes outside, as they may be exposed to rain in the hotel.
3. Do not allow small children to play with cell phone CFL bulbs or batteries
4. Do not hand over your discarded electronic waste to unauthorized informal electronic waste collectors

This is what you need to do

• Housing Office Institutions Collection of electronic waste at school and work level
• If possible, hand over the collection directly to us at your District Collection Center
• Or hand it over to your nearest Central Environmental Authority authorized electronic waste collector.
