Plesispa pest Damage

Although the Plasispa pest which was damaging the coconut plantations was first reported around the Gampaha district, it is now being reported from all parts of the island. This insect is a pest that spreads around nurseries.
Later, the pest spread to small plantations in many areas
How adult insects damage the leaves
Adult insects and larvae can be easily seen by opening the damaged bud and examining the leaflets.
Damage to the leaves caused by the infested insect can be identified as elongated stripes and larval damage as round spots.
These are best seen after the leaflets have been opened.
These streaks and spots appear light brown

Damage management
The current recommended method of damage management is the chemical control method
Carbosulfan (Marshall 20)

Dosage - Dissolve 03 milliliters in 01 liter of water

Duration to be applied
Apply the recommended insecticide every 2 weeks until the damage to the newly formed bud disappears

Procedures to be applied
It is best to inspect the bud before applying the insecticide and when the insect's larvae and infected insects can be seen in the bud.

It is best to use a naps sprayer to use a naps sprayer to give pesticides. The nozzle of the sprayer should be placed near the bud and the insecticide should be infused into the bud.

Insecticide application should be done in the morning

Coconut Nurseries Insecticides should be applied to every coconut plant in the nursery. This is because when an insecticide is applied to damaged plants, the adult insect flies to the untreated trees and protects them. Rejected seedlings in nurseries should also be destroyed or removed as the insect is contagious.
In addition to the unwanted coconut seedlings and coconut seedlings in coconut plantations, the placenta also infects plants such as palm / kitul / arecanut.
Growers should take care of this and apply pesticides to those plants if they want to remove or keep unwanted plants.
